Ideally 1000mbps (AKA gigabit) ethernet if those devices support it, if not they will probably fall down to 100mbps (aka "fast ethernet") operation.

Doubtless moving the TV will be difficult/impossible, so I'd pick up your router and PC, take them to the TV room, connect PC-router-TV by ethernet. Of course, it's a bit of a faff to organise such as test, but in this situation it's the best way to be sure. If so doing doesn't "fix" it, we know to investigate elsewhere.

If so doing "fixes" the problem, we know it's a network capacity problem. Testing without Wi-Fi and/or HomePlug/Powerline in the pathway between the source and sink takes those less reliable methods out of the picture. Presently, ethernet is the fastest and most reliable (fewest errors) method of SOHO data networking. I concur with those suggesting testing using ethernet all the way. The size of the files doesn't matter, it's the bit-rate requirement that's important factor, and you are now looking at those. To emphasise a couple of things from the discussion thus far:

Guessing you meant ethernet from pc all the way downstairs into the router, then seperate ethernet from the router downstairs all the way upstairs into the TV?ĭo any of the stats above provide any clarity to the situation, bitrate etc? When you say try by plugging it in via ethernet, do you mean direct from the PC to the TV? Not sure how this would work as the PC only has 1 ethernet port, so plugging ethernet directly from pc, into the TV would give the PC no internet connection obviously. I've just gathered some info from the Plex Media Server on the file I am trying to play: Plex TV App Plex for Hisense Version 3.13.13 If someone could advise before I pull all of my hair out it would be much appreciated. I want to know why it is transcoding when to my knowledge everything is 4K compatible. The Audio track on the file states 7.1 but also has the option to select 5.1, when selecting 5.1, within Plex Media Server it is showing the Video as transcoding but the Audio as direct playing. I turned on DLNA and tried playing through that, which it does appear to play in true 4K as the colours are vibrant, however, it buffers every 1.5 seconds making it unplayable. 5.1 Yamaha HTR 2071 AV Receiver (4K Compatible)ġ080p media plays fine, however, when attempting to watch 4K movies, Plex is transcoding it, causing the image to have an orange/dark tinge to it.Plex App on my Hisense H75B7510UK TV (4K Compatible).

Plex Media Server is stored on a Widows 10 PC (Local Wired).I want to get to the bottom of why my media is transcoding and not direct playing.
